Hello everyone.
With a full month of no weekend diving due to strong winds and high seas, I elected to take a couple of students to Blue Heron Bridge in order to finish their training. There were about 80 other divers there who had the same idea, yet there was enough room for everyone. I had one Open Water student and one Advanced Adventure student, and it was real easy to coordinate the dives in such a way that all the necessary skills got done.

Over the course of the two dives, we had a stingray encounter, saw a batfish, flounder, hermit crabs, horseshoe crab, a stone crab eating a jellyfish, parrotfish, spadefish, and a lot more. The students performed their tasks well and really enjoyed the variety of life we saw.

Another group of happy Open Water students finished up their classes today. With awesome ocean conditions, great visibility and very few jellyfish to speak of, our dives on the “Sea Emperor” and “Sanctuary Reef” were amazing and relaxing at the same time. Everyone was amazed by how much there really is to see on the reefs!

Today I had a “mixed bag” of students: 2 Open Water, 2 U/W Photography and 1 U/W Hunter. We had a beautiful day on the ocean as we headed out aboard Scubatyme Charters’ Scubatyme III to dive on the “Peter McAllister” tugboat and “Shark Ledge Reef”. Everyone did a great job on all their skills, the photo students shot about 300 photos, and the hunting student got to practice loading and shooting his gun (unfortunately, there were no fish for him to shoot today).

Today I had one student, Melissa, who was finishing up her final 2 checkout dives. It was a beautiful day with calm seas, bright sun and blue skies. We are heading out to do 2 drift dives on one of the local reefs. I took Melissa (and her boyfriend Quentin – already certified) down to the reef and we began drifting along. We came across a big sea turtle sitting on the reef, and it let us hang around for a while before swimming off! Melissa was really excited about all we saw and had a blast on her dives! She did an excellent job on her skills today, and I am sure she will be an awesome diver.

Today I took 4 students out for their final checkout dives. They were here as part of a group on spring break from Marshall University. Yesterday, I had taken them all out on a couple of beach dives, so today’s dives were all on the dive boat. They did an excellent job on their skills and were so excited to dive on a wreck and to see things like sea turtles, eels, lobsters and, of course, all the fish!

Today I took Brigid and Ardi (center of photo) out on Scubatyme Charters‘ Scubatyme III for their final Open Water checkout dives. It was a beautiful day out on the water and we did two great dives: The “Sea Emperor” and Turtle Ledge Reef. My students were very excited to be getting to dive on a shallow wreck and a reef, and they anxiously waited for the signal to begin our dives. Once in the water, they forgot all their anxieties and began to point out all of the fish and other animals they saw. Frantic signaling came from both students as they ended up seeing a large Spotted Eel, a big Lobster and a medium-sized Southern Stingray. They looked rather disappointed when I signaled it was time to end our dives, but that just means they’ll be heading out for more! Congratz to them both for their hard work all week!
